Swansea Casualty Threat

Swansea's Singleton Hospital casualty unit is being
threatened with yet another downgrading. The Trust is
proposing to replace this important minor casualty
service with just a single GP and nurse team!

After the successful campaign to prevent the closure
of Swansea's Fairwood Hospital and Ward 1 at Hill
House, the Trust is refusing to go to public
consultation over their plans in case they get the
same negative result.

The Trust has bombarded the press with articles and
letters from local GP's supporting their proposals for
a GP led unit. One GP who enthusiastically backed the
plans had to admit she had a vested interest because
she was a director of the GP 'out of hours service',
the main financial beneficiery if these proposals go
through.

Swansea SP members have played the leading role in
defending NHS services in Swansea & West Wales in
recent years and we will be building for a 'Save Our
Services' public meeting, supported by Swansea Trades
Council to ensure we get a public consultation and
stop this casualty downgrading.
