Construction electricians in Unite the Union have been fighting seven companies who are trying to break trade-union agreements and impose new contracts that would open the door to dangerous de-skilling of the workplace, undermine health and safety, cut pay by up to 35% and throw a roadblock in front of young trainees looking to qualify as electricians.

Llanelli Marches to Save Hospital
Around 300 trade unionists, health workers, medical professionals and community campaigners marched through Llanelli on 11th February to oppose the proposed closures at Prince Philip Hospital (PPH).

Llanelli Prince Philip Hospital: Closure Must be Defeated!
The closure of the A & E unit in Llanelli will mean patients having to travel to Carmarthen, Swansea or even Haverfordwest. It will mean journeys of at least 45 minutes to one hour. People will die. A united campaign of all those opposed to health service cuts must be built, involving health trade unions, patients, anticuts groups and health professionals to defend Prince Philip Hospital.

PCS Members in HMRC Strike Against Privitasation
Aound 20,000 PCS members in HMRC are taking strike action against the introduction of the private sector into its contact centres. Union members understand this is the beginning of an agenda of privatisation and potential outsourcing that will ultimately lead to cutting jobs and slashing wages and conditions, as well as a way of taking thousands of HMRC workers out of the civil service pension scheme.
